Seeing a new subscriber join Behind the Chapters gets me excited even after all this time. When I started this newsletter/blog, despite being a best-selling author, I wasn't sure anyone would want writing advice from someone who still stares at blank pages full of doubt some mornings and occasionally abandons drafts after dozens of pages.
Yet here we are. Behind the Chapters was recently named among the top 10 "Rising in Fiction" publications on Substack, most recently #7. And that's entirely because of you, dear readers. Your engagement on my emails, posts, and notes has transformed this from a simple newsletter and blog into a genuine community of writers. Every time you share your struggles with writing or celebrate finishing a difficult chapter, I'm reminded why I started this journey in the first place.
Writing can be a lonely pursuit, as I’m sure many of you are aware. Having others along makes the process much less solitary and infinitely more rewarding. Whether you've been here since before I joined Substack or joined in as recently as last week, please know that your presence is appreciated.
Now, it’s your turn. I'd love to hear from you. What aspects of the craft of writing do you struggle with and would like to see covered here in the future?
Feel free to drop your suggestions in the comments below—I’ll make time to read them all.
NEWS! My five-week workshop, “From Spark to Story,” will help you uncover and develop a raw idea into an intriguing story concept. Starts Wednesday, April 30. The workshop is for paid subscribers and I’m offering a discount to those who sign up for an annual subscription by April 30. Use this link to get the discount.
So, when it comes to the craft of writing what do you struggle with and would like to see more of in Behind the Chapters?
