Story Setting Challenge Wrap Up
A Four-Week Challenge on How to Create a Vivid Sense of Place in Stories and Novels
So we did it! Last week we completed our first writing challenge at Creativity for Fiction Writers.
Over a span of four weeks in March, we focused with determination and creativity on crafting a compelling and memorable sense of place in our stories and novels. Each week’s exercise included progressively more complex assignments on writing settings by adding characters, conflict, and other story elements. Excerpts from the works of bestselling and other widely read fiction authors were presented as examples.
I was so impressed with the inventiveness displayed by challenge participants as they thoughtfully tackled the assignments, shared their work, and commented on the efforts of others. If you missed it while live, you can still check it out. You’ll find a link to all of the posts, exercises and assignments a the top of the blog or you can go here.. The intro and each of the four exercises in the challenge include a link to the following exercise at the end of the essay.
I’m already planning the next writing challenge and hope to offer it in a month or two. I have a few ideas percolating, but the focus is wide open at this point. What would you like to explore? Let me know your preference in the poll above. If you have an entirely different idea that is not listed, feel free to share it in the comments.
Meanwhile, I’ll keep you posted with updates on the details—what, when, and how. I hope you’ll follow along and join us next time.
Transformation
Yes that’s what i’m thinking. A narcissus who transforms into a considerate, thoughtful and selfless person after going thru experiences - if that could ever be possible.
